French for “Tale of the Land,” Conte de la Terre is a love letter to the masters of old-world winemaking, to the purity of their craft and to rich, verdant terroirs that have defined winemaking excellence for centuries. We invite you to enjoy this bottle of Conte de la Terre Syrah and to pay homage to the passion and perseverance of winemaking, one sip at a time.
Where is the most exciting place in the new world for Syrah? It’s in the fantastic soils of Washington State. Our new release of Conte de la Terre is a perfect example of the stunning Syrah that can be achieved here. The wine is earthy and bold with the aromas of fragrant wild herbs pouring out of the glass. On the palate, gobs of blueberry balance with notes of Mediterranean olives, smoked meat and garrigue (check out the Did You Know!). This Syrah is bold yet smooth and is a great food wine.
For this Syrah, grapes were harvested from vines planted 5 years ago in Washington. After harvest, grapes were destemmed, crushed and added to stainless-steel tanks to ferment on organic, non-GMO selected yeast for 11 days.
DID YOU KNOW?
Garrigue (GAH-REEG) refers to the wild herbs and bushes that grow on the limestone soils of the Mediterranean coast. These bushes and fragrant plants include wild rosemary, thyme, lavender, juniper and mint. Garrigue is the term that encompasses all of these smells in one beautiful smell. You will find notes of Garrigue in wines from Southern France but also in the classic grapes of these regions grown in other places, like Washington State Syrah!
