Check out this new vintage of Ramato Pinot Grigio! What is Ramato? It’s an old-school style of winemaking that involves some skin contact of the Pinot Grigio grapes to create a Copper (Ramato) color. That skin contact creates more intense flavors like lychee and peach, and beautiful floral notes like honeysuckle and jasmine.
Che Fico. You say it, “KAY-fee-koh,” and it’s Italian for “How Cool!” As in, “Pino Grigio with a gorgeous copper color? Che Fico!”
For this Pinot Grigio, grapes were hand-harvested from vines planted in Terre di Chieti, Italy. After harvest, they were de-stemmed and crushed to extract slight color from the skins to create the rich ‘Ramato’ color. They are then pressed softly and put into stainless steel tanks to ferment for 2 weeks. Wine is then aged in stainless steel tanks to maximize freshness.
DID YOU KNOW? Ramato ––meaning auburn/copper in color–– is the style of wine for this Pinot Grigio. The grape skin contact adds color and texture to the final wine. Typical Pinot Grigio wine receives no skin contact, which means no color from the skins. This Pinot Grigio, due to the more intense pressing, has a little skin contact to create the beautiful copper color.
